The Wandering Newbie - When plans change
So when you find yourself on your own in the bush, what do you do? Head home, nah, keep going. Recently I found myself going solo as the person I was with inconveniently got COVID so decided to go home. I camped on my own down Ferguson Track which is up near Jamieson on the Saturday night. I do love being round the campfire on my own in the dark and waking up in the morning knowing that there is no need to rush. Anyway, I got going on Sunday morning and was planning on doing Silvermine Spur Road and Track. I got to the start and it was shut. Change of plan #1. Go down Mt Sunday Road and try to go the other way along Silvermine Spur Track. I just wanted to look at the the hut and campground. I found Silvermine Link Track and turned left onto Silvermine Spur Track. Found a great camping spot and then started to hit a newly graded bit which was just mud. I carried on for a bit but given I was on my own I called it when I reached a section that had more mud and was going up steeply. Change of plan #2. Turn around....this found me on Silvermine River Track which had it's own 'oh my god what am I doing?' moments and also uncovered an awesome camping spot! I look back on this little adventure and laugh at myself. Solo, with people, changing plans, whatever I'm doing in the bush and whoever I'm with, I have a great time!
